Broiled Grapefruit

Broiled Grapefruit

Broiled Grapefruit

This afternoon I realized we not only had NO FOOD in the fridge and pantry  but, I was not emotionally capable of cooking.  Yesterday was my son’s last day of school and today is my daughter’s.  Another year gone by— all too quickly.  I’m totally reflective and melancholic.

To my surprise, there were two lone grapefruits in the fruit crisper in my fridge and immediately knew I wanted to make BROILED GRAPEFRUIT.

Mom always served grapefruit at breakfast with a specially-serrated grapefruit spoons for easy handling. But, I had never tried Broiled Grapefruit. It’s light and refreshing with just the right about of tart ZING with a touch of sweetness. The perfect amount I needed to lift me up.

Plus, this one’s just too easy to pass up.

All you need is a grapefruit, a working oven, and some brown sugar.

Simply segment the grapefruit with a knife or special spoon. Make sure the grapefruit sits upright. If not, you might need to cut the bottom to level it off.

Then, sprinkle up to two tablespoons light brown sugar over top and place directly into the oven just below the broiler.

Let broil for up to 7 minutes or until the brown sugar melts perfectly into the flesh of the fruit.

You can serve the grapefruit warm or at room temperature.

Either way you’ll be pleasantly surprised and you’ll NEVER look at a grapefruit the same way.

Pucker up and enjoy!
