My son has an insatiable desire to learn everything he can about the world; mainly about other countries. Although he hasn’t formally taken a US History course, he’s already decided that US History is boring because “it’s too new.” He’s 9. Is there anything better than freshly-made guacamole in the summertime? I’m talking ripe avocados with some onions, cilantro, tomatoes and hot sauce. If you can’t get your hands on some steamed crabs this summer, try to find some crab meat instead. Many of my friends don’t understand why I squeal with glee at the thought of cracking open steamed crabs. Generally the complaints are consistent: that it’s way too much way for too little meat; they don’t like the smell of Old Bay seasoning, it’s way too messy (on the hands and the table) and it’s way too expensive. Now that one kid is back from sleep-away camp, the demands of home-cooked meals have been revived! How can a mom say no to a kid that actually enjoys home cooking? I will admit, during the 3 1/2 weeks he was gone, it certainly was not as much fun cooking for one. I had a nice reprieve from the responsibility of planing and preparing meals.
